AeroMD becomes the exclusive medical evacuation provider with ground vehicles in the territory.
AeroMD revolutionizes critical care transport (CCT) for emergent patients in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Combining the first USVI-headquartered fleet of aircraft and ground ambulances, the AeroMD team provides the most expedient medical evacuation process during an emergency. One AeroMD ground ambulance is based on St. Croix, while a second is based on St. Thomas. A third roving CCT vehicle floats between the three U.S. Virgin Islands, designated for disaster response. Initial use will be to transport patients cleared for medical evacuation flights between the territory’s hospitals and airports.
This modern ground ambulatory fleet can be modified into numerous interior configurations. These include an all-hands medical team configuration with up to nine passenger seats. A secondary ambulance configuration is intended for response to multi-victim accidents or natural disasters, accommodating up to six patients on backboards simultaneously. Many variations incorporate extensive medical gear packs within the AeroMD CCT units.
Tailored to serve residents and visitors in the U.S. Virgin Islands, AeroMD provides superior options for a community that is historically underserved in the medical realm. Limited facilities, staffing, and medical equipment resources in the Caribbean created a need for critical care transport to medical facilities outside of the region. A dedicated team of medics, pilots, and administrative staff reside on St. Croix and St. Thomas—prepared for a medevac mission at a moment’s notice. Serving the Caribbean since 2014, AeroMD has helped thousands of critical patients with medical evacuation flights. The addition of ground ambulances further expedites this process in life-saving situations where every second counts.
- Medical Gear AeroMD invested in high-tech gear to best equip its medical team to care for patients in ground and air ambulances. This includes modern ventilators, defibrillators, and IV pumps. The AeroMD medical team trains weekly with their equipment and participates in intensive, weeklong training every year, to confidently prepare for any patient scenario.
- High Quality Care The AeroMD medical team can perform mobile lab work along with administer medications from onboard pharmacies. In-house on a weekly basis, the AeroMD team utilizes gear on medical dummies for training exercises. To be successful in ambulance operations, safety and mission preparation serve as the primary focus at AeroMD. Its medical team continuously prepares for any mission they might encounter.
- Devoted Team Members of the AeroMD ground and air ambulance teams are highly-trained, skilled professionals with years of experience in emergency medical transport. These critical care nurses and respiratory therapists are experts at what they do, closely monitoring patient vital signs, adjusting oxygen, and other medical interventions.
- The Difference What truly differentiates the AeroMD medical team from others is collective, continuing education. When they are not working life-saving missions, they train relentlessly to handle any medical scenario. Unlike other critical care transport providers, AeroMD medical team members work closely together, in trainings on the ground and with patients in the air. These repetitive experiences allow them to provide critical patients with streamlined, consistent care at the highest level
Ground Ambulance Dispatch
Immediately after your call, our team swings into action. Unlike other air transport and ambulance services, we do not need to charter a plane. "AeroMD Ground CCT is an investment in high-level emergency medical services for residents of, and visitors to, the U.S. Virgin Islands," said AeroMD President and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Brendan Anzalone. "When every second counts in a medical emergency, having our own fleet of ground ambulances provides us the best opportunity to make a life-saving difference for a patient and their loved ones."
As the program develops there will be 1 CCT unit on St Thomas and 1 CCT unit on St Croix with a roving backup unit. With the addition of these units, AeroMD becomes the exclusive medical evacuation provider with ground vehicles in the territory. One of these CCT units will be configured for disaster response. This unit was specially designed featuring seating configurations and medical equipment needed for natural disasters or major accidents involving multiple patients. This disaster ambulances can adapt to seat up to nine medical team members or as many as six patients on backboards. Medical gear packs may be quickly added to or removed from secure wall tracks for special medical situations.
"In addition to having the only medevac aircraft headquartered in the territory, these new ground ambulances advance our team to more swiftly help critical patients in the U.S. Virgin Islands. While other medevac services claim to serve the entire Caribbean well from stateside headquarters, the AeroMD team is physically present on St. Thomas and St. Croix with an unwavering commitment to this community," said Spencer Howard, Director of Flight Operations at AeroMD.
The core of AeroMD is our Caribbean-based, 24/7, dedicated air ambulance service. Our fleet of aircraft was handpicked for operating in the Caribbean and are completely outfitted to serve as ground and flying intensive care units.
The founders of AeroMD had a mission to offer a superior air ambulance service to residents and visitors facing medical emergencies.
“When every second counts in a medical emergency, having our own fleet of ground ambulances provides us the best opportunity to make a life-saving difference for patients and their loved ones.”
